BLACKROCK
By Nick Enright
Blackrock delves into the complexities of youth, trauma, and societal expectations.
CGPC brings this powerful Australian play to life. Inspired by the real-life events surrounding the rape and murder of a teenager at a party in 1989, the play explores the aftermath of the tragic incident in the fictional town of Blackrock. Enright skillfully examines the impact of toxic masculinity, peer pressure, and the bystander effect on the characters, particularly focusing on the emotional turmoil of the victim's family and friends. The play raises thought-provoking questions about responsibility, justice, and the pervasive influence of social norms, making it a poignant and socially relevant work that resonates with audiences as it navigates the dark and challenging terrain of human behavior and morality.
